‘Obviously it’s on me:’ What Patrice Bergeron had to say about his costly penalty in overtime

Nine minutes into the first extra time of Game 2, Bruins focus Patrice Bergeron kicked a puck onto his stick before the Blue Jackets net and endeavored to cover it past Sergei Bobrovsky. He whiffed on his previous shot, and the Columbus goalie denied his second.

Blue Jackets focus Matt Duchene had a frightfully comparable open door at the 16:18 sign of the second additional time. This time, Duchene tapped the puck from skate to stick and slid it between Tuukka Rask's legs to give Columbus a 3-2 win and even the second-round arrangement 1-1.

Duchene's objective came 43 seconds after Bergeron was whistled for a stumbling punishment. As Blue Jackets defenseman Seth Jones brought the puck out from behind the Columbus net, Bergeron stuck his stick between Jones' legs and sent him to the ice.

After the annihilation, the four-time Selke Trophy victor assumed liability for extreme punishment.

"You strive to place yourself in a decent position all through the amusement, tight diversion. It's on me, attempt to stay away from the punishment, and that is it. It's a great misfortune however we got the opportunity to push ahead," Bergeron said.

Bergeron did not debate the call.

"The stick got captured," he said. "It's one of those plays that you make commonly, and it won't occur; however my stick shouldn't be there now of the amusement."

In the first-round arrangement against Toronto, Bergeron had three objectives and four bits of help. He's as yet hunting down his first point against Columbus.

"In a playoff arrangement, it's constantly about looking forward and ensuring we amend those things," he said. "A great deal of it is about — play more astute, I presume."

The Bruins head to Columbus for Game 3 on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
